Enter the real world of NFT! The 4th World’s Largest NFT Physical Event NFT.NYC

The fourth NFT.NYC, hosted by well-known Web3 companies (such as OpenSea, Coinbase, Polygon Studio, Moon Pay), came to a grand conclusion in New York's Times Square last week. During the four-day event from June 20 to June 23, hundreds of NFT project owners, enthusiasts, and artists from all over the world gathered together, adding some warmth to the recent cold crypto market. \n\nNFT.NYC's events were held at seven different venues in Times Square, New York. In addition to the physical exhibitions of various projects, there were also a variety of speeches. The topics of the speeches covered music, brands, art, movies and sports. There were more than 1,000 speakers, including well-known speakers such as Alex Mo of Coinbase, artists Amber Vittoria and Yam Karkai.

At the same time, the organizers of NFT.NYC also held the second NFT Awards Ceremony during the event. There were more than 50 awards and 18,456 votes from various communities to select the winners this time. Next, let’s take a look at some noteworthy winners and the activities they participated in at NFT.NYC!

Bored Apd

Bored Apd is the biggest winner of the second NFT Awards, winning four major awards in the second NFT Awards: Best Sales Collection, Largest Collection, Most Creative NFT Project, and Best NFT Business Model.

Bored Apd was launched in April 2021 and achieved sales of US$2 billion just over a year later. Its holders include celebrities such as Taiwan's well-known entrepreneur Jeff Huang, internationally renowned singer Jostin Bibber, and 2021-2022 NBA FMVP Stepn Curry.

During the NFT.NYC event, Bored Apd also placed a large statue of Bored Ape on site as a check-in spot for participants to take photos.

Analyzing the success of Bored Ape Yacht Club

In this event, the spread of the community established by Bored Ape was quite successful.

During the four-day event, only Bored Ape holders can participate in the event, which includes live performances by big bands, open-air bars, free food, limited merchandise sales, etc. A large Bored Ape sailor will be placed next to the pier to create a check-in spot, allowing everyone who participates to share and repost their photos with Bored Ape on Twitter and spread them through the power of social media. In addition, a famous rapper will also be invited to participate in the event.

The way Eminem and Snoop Dogg jointly released songs also successfully introduced the Bored Ape project to the fan base of Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

In terms of curatorial activities, the online and offline integration activities of Bored Ape were quite successful.

Doodles

The next project to be introduced is Doodles. Doodles did not win any award in the second NFT Awards. However, as a blue-chip project, Doodles did something different from other projects in this NFT.NYC event. Let us take a look at Doodles’ performance in NFT.NYC!

Doodles made several important announcements at the NFT.NYC conference. In one of the keynote speeches, new Doodles CEO Julian Holguin talked about the brand’s direction, colors, and image. He explained to the audience the mission and vision of Doodles and appointed renowned hip-hop singer and gold medal producer Pharrell Williams as the brand's chief executive.

In addition, he will serve as executive producer of a Doodles-inspired music album titled "Doodles Records: Volume 1", which will be released in collaboration with Columbia Records.

A Doodles spokesperson said the album will be distributed across various platforms, but can only be purchased via NFT and will also be bundled with additional NFT collectibles.

In addition to the keynote speech, Doodles also held a party and store during the event, and released a new trailer premiering "Doodles 2 NFT".

Analyzing the characteristics of Doodles

From our perspective, what did Doodles do right by not receiving any NFT awards?

First, they started to build their brand, which is where other Web3 projects are relatively weak.

From the introduction of the previous project "Bored Ape", we can see the successful integration of Bored Ape online and offline, and the establishment of topics has led to the spread of the community. Doodles' vision is to build the world's largest and most loved Web3 media brand, bridging the gap between mainstream consumption and culture + entertainment.

Doodles is using its vision to build consumer imagination. The world's largest and most beloved Web3 media is their principle, and everything they do revolves around this, so they brought in famous hip-hop singer and gold medal producer Pharrell Williams as brand director.

Pharrell Williams' role is like a missionary of Doodles, spreading their ideas. He will bring the ideas of Doodles to the hearts of every consumer through the release of songs.

In addition, in order to allow everyone to participate in Doodles, they announced the release of the second generation of Doodles NFT, so that people know that they can find it on OpenSea when they think of Doodles.Just as we go to McDonald's when we think of eating French fries, Doodles is building such a culture.

Takashi Murakami

Finally, let me introduce Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist whose style is deeply influenced by Japanese animation and comics. His works have flat images, and look like both toy models and dolls. They combine cuteness, sexual fantasy and extreme violence, with a strong cartoon color, but at the same time allude to the connotation of Japanese culture. Such a unique creative style also makes him the founder of the Superflat movement.

Such a unique artist won the Best Traditional Artist turned NFT Artist award at the second NFT Awards Ceremony.

Murakami Takashi expected to release his personal NFT at the beginning of last year

Smiling Little Flower

, but withdrew due to personal reasons.

This year he announced his return to launch a new personal NFT and opened an Instagram account for this purpose. He wrote in his IG post:

“Looking back, I announced the launch of my first NFT project on March 30 last year, but just 11 days later, I decided to withdraw. I was a little confused at the time. I hadn’t really digested what NFT art was, and I didn’t know much about the background of cryptocurrency.”

“I have been actively trading cryptocurrencies since July last year, and I now have a certain understanding of the relationship between traditional currencies and cryptocurrencies. The most important thing is that I have gained a lot of knowledge through cooperation with RTFKT, and I am still learning a lot with them. But I am sure that there are still many things I don’t understand in this field, and I still need a lot of guidance from everyone.”

In the second NFT Awards, subjective awards such as the Best NFT Artist were selected by community voting. Next, we will analyze from our perspective why Murakami won the award.

Analysis of Takashi Murakami

From our point of view, there are several important reasons why Murakami won this award:

1. Creator’s fame and imagination of the work

Murakami has held exhibitions at many famous exhibition venues around the world, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2007, the Brooklyn Museum in New York in 2008, and his solo exhibitions at the Palace of Versailles in France in 2010. This shows Murakami's influence in the art world. In addition, he has published the concept of "Superflat".

Murakami Takashi once personally explained the meaning behind the term superflat:

“I really like Japanese animation and American science fiction movies.

”, the first scene at the beginning is presented in 3D effects, while Japanese science fiction works tend to move horizontally. My artistic philosophy is to create a three-dimensional perspective similar to that of the human eye, and to build a flat world, but with a certain degree of depth in the flatness. "

Simply put, it is to create the three-dimensionality and depth of the painting in the two-dimensional plane of the painting board, which coincides with the concept of NFT combining virtuality with reality, allowing the 2D digital world to be combined with the 3D real world.

2. Jointly issue NFT with brands

As Murakami mentioned on Instagram, "I gained a lot of knowledge from working with RTFKT."

During the cooperation with RTFKT, many co-branded NFTs were issued, such as:

Hublot’s NFT Watch

This has greatly increased Murakami's popularity in the NFT circle. Coupled with his original influence, it will be no problem for him to win the Best Traditional Artist award and become an NFT artist.
