How to Create a The Sandbox Experience with the Element of the Year of the Dragon

The annual Lunar New Year is here again!

What's even more special this year is that it's the Year of the Dragon, which comes once every twelve years.

In Chinese culture, the dragon symbolizes power, wisdom, and good fortune, and it is considered an auspicious symbol in Chinese traditions.

With these characteristics in mind, how can we create a The Sandbox experience incorporating the elements of the Year of the Dragon?

When nspace was thinking about how to build the Year of the Dragon experience in The Sandbox, we reflected on some of the cases from last year’s Lunar New Year.

During last year’s "Year of the Rabbit," which coincided with The Sandbox Season 3, The Sandbox launched a series of Year of the Rabbit activities.

They introduced a reward pool of 200,000 SAND coins and mysterious blind boxes.

By completing specific tasks, players could receive exclusive personalized avatars and even The Sandbox land from the blind boxes.

In the tasks, players could also collect rabbit suction cups.

From this perspective, we can design tasks in The Sandbox centered around dragon-related themes.

For example: finding dragon eggs, helping dragon babies hatch, and training them to grow into mighty dragons.

Players who successfully complete these tasks will not only receive generous SAND coin rewards but also have a chance to get special dragon-themed mystery boxes for the Year of the Dragon.

  1. Creating a Dragon Year Themed Village

Alternatively, we can integrate well-known IPs to enhance the experience of these IPs in The Sandbox.

For example, we could use the famous anime "Dragon Ball" as a dragon-related element and build our experience in The Sandbox.

From Goku's journey to collect the Dragon Balls, to the Kaioshin's residence on King Kai's Planet, to Piccolo's palace, and the location where the Dragon is summoned—these are all elements that can be part of a dragon-themed experience in The Sandbox. Players can enjoy the festive fun while gaining a deeper understanding of the symbolism of the dragon in Eastern culture and the messages that brands and IPs wish to convey.

These experiences can be highlights that attract players to explore and engage in more related activities and tasks.

  1. Dragon Year Commemorative NFTs and Virtual Goods

In addition to the scenes and tasks, we can also release NFTs and virtual goods.

During last year's Lunar New Year, in celebration of the Rabbit Year, we released NFTs that even featured the words "Alpha Season 3" printed on them!
