"Korean Wave" sweeps the world! Even the Metaverse has Korean Wave culture
In recent years, Korean culture has created a strong wave on the global stage. From seeing Korean dramas widely available on streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+, BTS's music blasting through our headphones, to BLACKPINK stealing our attention, K-pop culture has become a global phenomenon.
And now, this Korean wave of culture is about to enter The Sandbox, creating a "Korean wave" in the world of the Metaverse!
As early as December 2022, several Korean companies, such as SMBM, CUBE Entertainment, LINE Studio, Gravity, Lotte World and K League, have entered the virtual world The Sandbox. In the first wave of K-verse land sales auctions, these companies released land adjacent to their own companies.

Amid the craze of the Korean Wave, the first wave of “K-VERSE” land sales was sold out in an instant. The success of this land sales event not only reflects the appeal of Korean culture, but also shows the importance of the virtual world and blockchain technology in promoting the development of the cultural industry. Everyone is eager to become a neighbor of K-verse and pursue a closer connection with the Korean cultural industry.

Korean Wave Enters Metaverse, Gaming Industry Struggles to Be First

Gravity Co., Ltd. is a globally renowned gaming company established in April 2000 when the Korean gaming industry was in its infancy. As an industry leader, Gravity is the only Korean gaming company directly listed on NASDAQ. They have set many records in game development and are now bringing their game Ragnarok Online into the Metaverse. "Ragnarok Online" has a large player base in both South Korea and the global market, and is loved by players in many countries. Now, they are bringing Ragnarok to Yuanyu宙的領域。
"Ragnarok Online" is a game based on Norse mythology, creating a fantasy world full of swords and magic. The game uses many terms and items related to Norse mythology. Unlike previous Web2 game experiences, when players enter The Sandbox to play Ragnarok, they will be able to use The Sandbox's creation tools to create their own costumes and props, create their own unique adventures, and share them with players around the world.
In the Metaverse, you will not only be a player, but also a creator and adventurer. In this space, you can give full play to your imagination and creativity.

Hallyu enters the Metaverse, and famous Korean dramas are no exception
This year, The Sandbox also reached a cooperation with global IP entertainment company AIMC to bring the most popular Korean drama "Lawyer Woo Young-woo" in 2022 into the metaverse.

Lawyer Young-woo is a South Korean television series and one of the most watched non-English shows on Netflix. The drama tells the story of Woo Young-woo, a novice female lawyer with autism spectrum disorder who is smart, charming and has excellent business skills. In the play, Woo Young-woo has a special feeling for whales and uses animals as characters to portray herself.
In this collaboration, The Sandbox and AIMC will recreate the scenes of the TV series in the metaverse, such as the court, Wang Yang Law Firm, and Woo Young-woo's Seaweed Bun Restaurant. All scenes will be built in the Korean cultural theme space "K-verse (Korea Universe)". Players can enjoy the beautiful suspended whales and play games in this unique venue.
In addition, The Sandbox will work with AIMC on various projects, such as creating NFTs based on AStory’s TV shows and entertainment IPs. They launched an NFT project called “Extraordinary Whale Club” to raise awareness of autism. Additionally, they are expanding their IP-focused portfolio to include actor management, webtoon production, and commercial projects.

Now, in June of 2023, a new LAND sales event “K-VERSE — The Rise of Korean Wave” is about to go live, bringing a new look to the new wave of the Korean Wave metaverse.
